Mountain cherry wood has long been valued as a high-quality timber. Sutechi-cho in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, is renowned as the source of sacred wood used in the Ise Jingu Shikinen Sengu—the shrine’s periodic reconstruction ceremony.
This wood is crafted at Arai Sawmill, nestled in a nature-rich mountain village. We source locally grown lumber in its raw form and handle every step of the production process in-house, ensuring quality and sustainability.
Every tree is a precious resource. From the moment it is harvested, we carefully plan how to use the lumber efficiently, minimizing waste.
Mountain cherry is a hardwood with no resin and a naturally beautiful bark. Its dense, solid structure makes it highly resistant to scratches, and with use, it develops a rich, candy-colored patina.
This makes it an ideal material for durable, everyday tools.
